HARD HAUNTED MANSION in LA

If there's one thing I would like to attend this year it would definitely be this, no doubt about it. Just look at that bloody lineup! good god!

On another note, I love the poster that was designed for this event. It kind of has a 70's-80's-esque feeling to it. And the disco ball exploding into a carved pumpkin, it's rather fitting I'd say.

Meridian short film

A short film by Brian Levi Bowman featuring the song "Daydream" by one of my favorite musicians and designers, Tycho aka iso50 aka Scott Hansen. The 2:37 second video was beautifully made. The colors, the cinematography, the little space dust particle effect...simply amazing. As for the song, no lie, I would love to wake up every morning to that song. It's that aesthetically beautiful. You can view the video below.

MERIDIAN

noun
1. a circle of constant longitude passing through a given place on the earth's surface and the terrestrial poles.
(also celestial meridian) Astronomy a circle passing through the celestial poles and the zenith of a given place on the earth's surface.
2. (in acupuncture and Chinese medicine) each of a set of pathways in the body along which vital energy is said to flow. There are twelve such pathways associated with specific organs.

The philosophy of materialism holds that the only thing that can be truly proven to exist is matter. Fundamentally, material composes all things and all phenomena are the result of material interactions; therefore, matter is the only substance and can neither be created or destroyed. Hence, we are all made of only what came before us yet discretely conceived through form; we are all made of earth and sky and stars.

Meridian uses time lapse footage coupled with a live action environment to describe the material connection between the ethereal universe and human perception. Featuring the track "The Daydream" by the ambient artist Tycho, star-scapes intersect a city and a female protagonist in the process of discovery within the context of ordinary life.

Nikon D700

So here's another one. Every year Nikon produces something new, something that steps up it's predecessor. But, don't get me wrong, the 12.1 megapixel D700 seems to be worth it. Think everything the D3 is but in a smaller package. Lil Beast! If you're interested in getting one though, good luck trying to get your hands on one due to the fact that it's sold out most everywhere and it'll set you back at $3,500. Clearing out

So less than two days left in Chesapeake. My room is rather empty. Tonight I'm sleeping on a sheet less futon. The walls are blank. There are piles of boxes in the corner where my television use to sit, where id spend countless hours burning my retinas out on video games and movies. My room is just...simple. It's kind of weird. Kind of sad. I think about this year and now just realize that I've done a lot to get to the point where I am now. It's like that big sigh of relief after a long day of work. A new chapter in my life is about to unfold and it's happening so quickly. There are things I'm going to miss and things I'm not. I'm excited, not too nervous. So, tomorrow I pick up the keys to the new place. Saturday is move in day. No turning back now, huh? Not that I'm considering it.

ibook G4 Hard drive upgrade

It's pretty much like pulling teeth, correction... worse than pulling teeth. Unscrewing over one hundred tiny ass screws will give any healthy human an excruciating headache. It took about three hours. Never again I say!...unless I'm getting paid. Okay, okay, I'm just gonna put it out there, If anyone needs a hard drive or RAM replacement in any Mac model (desktop or laptop) and doesn't want to pay an arm and leg , ask me. I'm a pro now :)

The "STOP" sign

I found this video quite funny. As much as I want to believe that there aren't marketers out there such as the ones in this video, I can't bring myself to it, I'm almost certain that there are. This humorous video mirrors what designers are faced with when it comes to marketing/creative relations. Shouldn't the creative stuff be left to the "creatives", no? There is a big difference between marketing and Advertising, believe me.

MGMT- Kids (Soulwax remix) (video)

While we wait for Soulwax's official remix of MGMT"s "kids" track, there are only a few that are lucky enough to have received the promo. Erol Alkan is one of them. Check it out, it's going to huuuge...as Trump would say it.

The Dark Knight

The movie was well worth seeing on the big screen, well worth waiting in the long ass fandango line, well worth the wait to leave the theater and money well spent. As expected, Heath Ledger did a phenomenal job as Joker and the same goes with Bale (Batman), Eckhart (Harvey Dent/Two face) and so on. I'm not going to rant on about how good the movie was because I'm sure anyone who is reading this has seen it already and will think the same thing. You can read the reviews here

Banksy

Why expose an artist when his main purpose is to attain an anonymous identity. This will surely dent his ability to create more art in the future.

Dawes road bike

So, I just purchased a brand new 08' Dawes Lightning sport road bike on ebay and I'm super stoked! I also ordered some white handlebar grip tape to replace the stock black. I'm also planning on changing out the black brake levers and black brake wires for some red ones later on this month. I thought this would be the perfect bike to bring with me to Richmond due to its light weight and speed.

For the SPECS: Full Chrome-moly Dura-Forte Frame and fork; with Alex Aluminum rims, Shimano 2200 14-speed der's with stem indexed shifters, high pressure 700c tires, quick release wheels front and rear, aluminum alloy hubs, SHIMANO aluminum crank, Aluminum alloy pedals including toe clips with straps, aluminum stem, aluminum handlebar, aluminum seatpost, ProMax aluminum dual-pivot side-pull brakes and levers, plus a very nice Velo Road bike seat
.

Blanka

"Blanka is both an online gallery and permanent visual archive devoted to celebrating the very best in creative communication and print on an international stage."

I came across this website on a blog I frequent. It's a very large archive of vintage poster prints that are really fun to look at. Design from this era in time will always be an inspiration to me, despite my age.

Because of trees

So I've really been into the whole natural wood design in furniture and structures for as long as I can remember. In the homes below you can see that the open spaces and large windows allow for ample light to come in and reflect off the wood grain which gives off a natural feeling within the structure. You could only imagine how nice it smells walking into one of these homes. Shown below is Architect Arthur Erickson's brilliantly designed wooden homes located in the Pacific Northwest.

Workspace

A person's workspace is an important aspect when it comes to inspiration and getting that "not working" feel. It's something that you shouldn't dread going to. Here are some spaces I really enjoy each with different or maybe the same reason in terms of functionality and simplicity.

Ostel

The Ostel hotel in Berlin, Germany.

The Ostel proves that communism doesn't always have to be dreary and depressing, especially in the design.

"The 100 greatest movie posters"

Tccandler.com has posted a list of 100 of the most greatest movie posters. The posters were judged based on relevance to the movie and how effective the poster was. Check them out here.

My all time favorite...

And some other personal favorites from the list...

These are some movie poster designs that I believe work well and succeed in portraying the essence of the movie it promotes and does not reflect my taste in movies, though some of these are pretty good.
